Madonna joins Israeli PM for Jewish Sabbath celebrations
Madonna reportedly joined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his family to celebrate the Jewish Sabbath.
The Queen of Pop, who arrived in the country for two concerts as part of her ‘Sticky & Sweet’ world tour, purportedly witnessed the traditional Friday evening ritual with the leader.
The singer was said to have spent two hours at the politician’s home, lighting candles and delivering blessings, reports a news website.

MADONNA LIGHTS SABBATH CANDLES WITH ISRAEL PM
JERUSALEM — Madonna joined the Israeli prime minister and his family Friday in the traditional ritual welcoming the Jewish Sabbath
A statement from from the prime minister’s office says the singer spent two hours with Bejamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara at their home lighting candles and reciting a blessing together.
She arrived in Israel on Sunday and performed in Tel Aviv on Tuesday and Wednesday.
She was wearing a short-sleeved black dress as she left the heavily guarded Netanyahu home Friday.

NO AUDIENCE WITH QUEEN OF POP FOR PALESTINIANS
UK, Friday September 04, 2009
Dominic Waghorn, Middle East correspondent
Madonna is winding up her world tour in, of all places, the Prime Minister of Israel’s residence.

The blogosphere is frothing with debate about the message Madonna is sending.
She is not embarking on a political career. Benjamin Netanyahu just seems to be the last person she’s got round to in a long list of assignments on her trip here.
She has also been to the Western Wall, the holiest place Jews can pray.
She has paid respects at the graves of dead Kabbalah rabbis, while receiving scorn from living ones for her immodesty and not-so abstemious lifestyle.
The Queen of Pop has dined with the Queen of Israeli politics, opposition leader Tzipi Livni. And a real Queen laid on a helicopter for her to visit the legendary ruins of Petra over the border in Jordan.
What she has not done is meet Palestinian leaders or bothered to go into the West Bank, apparently.
Most celebrities manage at least to fit a visit to Bethlehem on their Holy Land itinerary, but not even the place of Christ’s birth was graced this time by this Madonna.
Making matters worse for Palestinians were images of the star draped in Israel’s blue and white flag at her concert in Tel Aviv.
One Palestinian youth worker told Israeli news website Ynet that Madonna “tries to place herself as a global role model, but consistently ignores Palestinian suffering”.
The footage on Youtube is accompanied by a slew of angry talkback from Palestinians and others. The blogosphere is frothing with debate about the message Madonna may or may not have been sending to the world.
Madonna is an enthusiastic follower of a mystical branch of Judaism called Kabbalah – or, at least, the version on offer in Los Angeles. She has even adopted the Jewish name Esther, after yet another Queen, this one in the Bible.
She might be forgiven, therefore, for being more interested in the Jewish side of things during her visit.
But she is being criticised here for saying she hopes for harmony and peace in the Middle East while at the same time apparently ignoring the plight of Palestinians under occupation.

Hania Bitar has a suggestion for the star, to help make up for her alleged bias. The next time she considers adopting a child, why not choose one from Gaza?
SUSAN BOYLE ?COVERS MADONNA FOR DEBUT ALBUM?
Britain’s Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle has recorded a Madonna cover for her debut album, it’s been reported.
The Scottish starlet, whose singing became a YouTube hit earlier this year, is said to have recorded her own version of ‘You’ll See’ to avenge her past critics.
“Susan chose it herself – it’s a song she has loved for years,” a source told The Sun newspaper.
“She sang it at auditions for TV shows and music contests when she used to be cruelly turned away by people”.
“At the end, when she was sometimes reduced to tears, she used to say, ‘You’ll See’. And she’s proof she can do it now as one of the most famous women in the world.”
Her debut album is due to be released in November.
